i have been following quite a number of shabby chic-type design blogs for a while now and i have to say it… i am in deep, deep envy of those women in the world who really can decorate their homes in white on white on white. there are two major reasons i can’t. one is that at some point i just know that i will need color like flowers need rain. the other is that i share my home with two males - one being my three year old son who recently found a permanent marker on the kitchen counter and went about redecorating as he saw fit (needless to say, our tastes are not compatable); the other being my husband who is a restaurant manager and at any given time will come home with a substance of unknown origin (usually from the kitchen) on his clothing without his knowing and it gets left behind on the couch or a chair, etc. oh, and i can’t forget about the cat who sheds long black hair everywhere… alas, no white on white for me. oh, but if i could…

My earliest human memory… falling out of a tree in my grandparents’ front yard and splitting my lip open from the inside. I have a scar on my chin under my lip from where my teeth went through it. My guess is that I was about three.
